How to Do Product Swaps on Your Existing Videos in Katalist

Guide to swapping products and outfits in your existing videos while keeping everything else intact.

Written by Titi Taiwo

Got an existing video that needs a quick product update? This guide walks you through how to easily perform product swaps on your existing videos like changing outfits and updating merchandise without needing a reshoot.

1. Uploading and Splitting Your Video

  • Click New Project and select Blank Canvas.

  • Drag and drop your video file directly from your computer into Katalist to upload.

  • If your video has multiple cuts, select the video and click Cut. Katalist will automatically detect each cut, processing and separating your video into individual clips.

  • Once processing is complete, each clip will appear separately in your project, ready to be edited individually.

2. Performing a Product Swap

  • Select Your Reference Image.

  • You can either generate a reference image directly inside Katalist or upload a pre-existing image from your computer (e.g., an image of a blue tracksuit to swap out a suit).

  • Click the Edit This Video button on the clip you want to modify.

  • Then Enter Your Prompt: In the prompt box, describe the change and tag your reference image using the @ symbol (e.g., "Change the man's suit into the blue tracksuit from @Image").

  • Click Apply. Katalist will generate the new video, swapping in the new product or outfit while keeping the subject and background identical.

Note: Generation can take up to a few minutes depending on the shot.

Reusing Clips and Exporting

Repeat the product swap process for any other clips in your project. Once you're done editing, add your updated clips to the timeline, preview the full sequence, make any final adjustments, and click Export.
